Process Technician

Process Technicians are responsible for day to day operation and monitoring of the processing plant and services, to achieve safe, reliable & efficient operation.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Start-up/Shutdown & Operate the plant/process within the set production & safety parameters and as per existing operating procedures. To include reporting of issues to STL.
  • Effective communicate as required, to include Operational & Laboratory personnel, Maintenance & contracting staff, Warehouse/Finished goods department, BP and Management team regarding any relevant issues, to include radio management.
  • Completion of daily handovers and check sheets. To include the requirement to sign at start & finish of shift, understand how to handover relevant instructions, procedures & permits correctly.
  • Respond timely and appropriately to emergency situations.
  • Carryout troubleshooting of plant problems under the direction of STL.
  • Carry out daily, weekly, monthly inspections of emergency equipment, plant integrity and SMC checks. To include how to identify when routines are scheduled, signing upon completion, actions taken upon finding a defect.
  • Report any H&S issues / incidents via the CATS reporting system.
  • Report any Engineering issues via the MAXIMO work order system.
  • Take part in planned safety and environmental inspections, plant tours & behavioural audits as requested.
  • Awareness of COMAH, Major Accident Scenarios and emergency procedures.
  • Compliance with the requirements of the Environmental Permit for the process plant.
  • Awareness of Legionella responsibilities.
  • Awareness of compliance with the requirements of both OHSAS 18001 & ISO 14001, where applicable.
  • Take an active part in training to improve plant and process knowledge.
  • Carry out minor maintenance tasks, within own competence.
  • Working knowledge of PTW system, including isolation standards and carrying out isolations/de-isolations.
  • Carry out daily, weekly, monthly inspections of emergency equipment, plant integrity and SMC checks. To include how to identify when routines are scheduled, signing upon completion, actions taken upon finding a defect.
  • Take samples as per the sampling schedule and procedure.
  • Ensure good housekeeping standards are maintained on plant.
  • Be responsible for ensuring all waste, generated on plant is correctly managed, including being correctly labelled, sampled and stored in CWZ.
  • Emergency responder duties, as detailed in the on-site emergency plan, as required.

Other Responsibilities

  • Ensure correct storage/location and stock control of raw materials used on plant.
  • Ensure control of emergency equipment and PPE in working area.
  • Ensure correct control of any waste streams and assist in the management of the control waste zone, including location of MSDS/COSHH data.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • A good level of formal qualifications (GCSE or equivalent) in relevant technical subjects and a good aptitude for IT systems are a necessity for this role.
  • Be able to demonstrate experience of working as part of a team with a proven ability to meet challenging deadlines.
  • Experience of following complex procedures and work instructions, ideally gained as part of working in a hazardous environment, where safe working procedures were of paramount importance.
  • Be able to demonstrate they are credible and authentic communicators, who can influence others positively and who have experience of working with teams from other disciplines in a structured and collaborative way.
  • Your ability to operate effectively in a delivery-focussed and often fast-paced environment will be evident, and you should be able to show us evidence of successfully learning and adapting to new processes and procedures in a positive way.
  • Experience of in a chemical manufacturing environment would be a distinct advantage.
  • NVQ level 3 qualifications or an equivalent level of experience in chemical plant or refinery operations would be preferred.
  • Experience of working in a COMAH regulated environment.
  • Some skills in mechanical or I/E disciplines combined with a strong aptitude for learning new and complex processes would also be beneficial.

Instrument & Control Engineer

Responsibility for site Instrumentation, including DCS/ESD and all associated equipment and software. To ensure the safe and economical operation of plant and processes, within the requirements of relevant European and UK legislation and good engineering practice.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Communicate and demonstrate commitment to best HSE practices.
  • Support the implementation of HSE practices within the engineering and production environment as a fully integrated management system.
  • Execute the responsibilities of engineers/technicians and all employees as outlined in the HSE responsibilities overarching document.
  • Instrumentation and Control Technical Authority for maintaining the process plant reliability, availability and integrity targets and for design work by engineering contractors.
  • Development of Instrument and Control maintenance philosophy, support for the maintenance planning process and management of Maximo work order backlog via the Lead Maintenance Engineer & E&I Team Leader.
  • Leadership and support for business projects and Management of Change from inception through to completion.
  • Define Key Performance Indicators for maintenance delivery, routinely monitor and report on areas for continual improvement.
  • Monitor and update the site Instrumentation and Control asset maintenance programme.
  • Support the Instrumentation and Control asset management methodologies to continuously improve asset value.
  • Assist with Technical Advice for field Instrumentation and DCS/ESD troubleshooting, assisting the E&I Team Leader and technician group to maintain plant reliability and operational availability.
  • Work closely within site the Operations and Engineering teams to ensure safe and efficient implementation of asset maintenance requirements.
  • Support process plant shutdowns in terms of planning, scope development and execution.
  • Develop good relationships with key internal and external stakeholders committed to furthering the interests of Nippon Gohsei.
  • Support the standardisation of Instrumentation and Control engineering practices and processes.
  • Support effective Instrumentation and Control technology and capability transfer channels throughout the organisation (NGUK, Japan and Noltex).
  • Support the audit program to ensure compliance with stated Instrumentation and Control maintenance policy.
  • Identify areas of high cost Instrumentation and Control maintenance and implement methods of minimising costs.
  • Advise on the development of Instrumentation and Control preventative maintenance procedures.
  • Mange the compliance of Instrumentation and Control equipment in hazardous areas.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Support for the Instrumentation function, E&I Team Leader and Lead Maintenance Engineer.
  • Control of contractors

Other Responsibilities

  • Provide holiday and absence cover for the Senior Instrument and Control Engineer.
  • Assess and assist source of spare parts, materials and services required for the support of the Instrumentation and Control systems and apparatus.
  • Technical advisor for the purchase of new Instrumentation and Control equipment as part of CAPEX upgrade projects.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • Degree qualified Engineer.
  • Competent with Honeywell Control Systems.
  • Safety Instrumented Systems / Functional Safety Engineer.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the Petro/Chemical industry performing an operational support role.
  • Self-motivated with excellent communication & coordination skills.
  • Experience of working at the interface between employer and contract support personnel with ability to instruct methods required to ensure maintenance quality standards.
  • Knowledge of planning & scheduling tools (eg: Excel, Microsoft project) & Maintenance management software (Maximo, SAP etc.).

Special Working Conditions

  • Be available for abnormal working hours and emergency call out.
