NIPPON GOHSEI UK Limited is a subsidiary of the NIPPON Synthetic Chemical Company (NIPPON GOHSEI Corporation) of Japan. NIPPON GOHSEI was formed in 1927 and today employs over 1,500 people producing a wide range of products on a global scale.

The UK operation was established in 2001 and the construction of the 15,000 MT EVOH plant began in 2002 with commercial operation established in 2004.

Our Manufacturing Facility in the UK is situated on the Saltend Chemicals Park which is a cluster of world class chemicals and renewable energy businesses just outside Kingston upon Hull.

The Site occupies a strategic position on the east coast of the UK with good access to ports, road and rail networks.

Why the UK?

The reason the Saltend Chemicals Park was selected was due to the synergies with the Vinyl Acetate and Acetic Acid Manufacturing plants at this location and the connectivity to the ethylene pipeline network on the park. This enables NIPPON GOHSEI to receive all of its raw materials by pipeline and export of by-product as a raw material for the production of acetic acid at this location.

The chemical park also adjacent to the Hull port that facilitated distribution of the product to the continent. The product is shipped by truck in 25kg bags, 600kg or 700kg boxes. Over 90% of the product is exported to Europe. We have a network of third party warehouses in Hull and on the continent to service our customer base.

What we make

The Hull site makes SoarnoL™ which is an environmentally-friendly ethylene vinyl alcohol copolymer (EVOH). This is used extensively as a gas barrier in multi-layered plastics packaging such as bottles and containers particularly for the food industry.

Health and Safety

We are committed to managing the safety, health, quality and continuous improvement of our environmental performance. Our overall goal is to have no injuries or occupational
illnesses to people, nor any damage to property and prevent pollution of the environment.

Investors in People

We support a range of local charities each year and work closely with the Hull and East Yorkshire Smile Foundation. We also have good links with the local community and use local companies wherever we can.
